England eliminated Sweden and went into the semifinals after 28 years

In Samara, the English beat the Swedes 2-0 with a goal by Harry Maguire and Dele Alli. Now they wait for their next rival that will leave between Russia and Croatia

The English national team qualified for the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup in Russia after beating Sweden 2-0 at the Samara Arena with goals from Harry Maguire and Dele Alli at 30 and 59 minutes. The Swedes could not get the discount despite trying in much of the second half.

The Southgate team got into the next round, which were already France and Belgium after beating Uruguay and Brazil respectively. Now it only remains to see who will be the winner of the next meeting between Croatia and Russia to close the third World Cup.

Imprecision and little game was experienced in the first section of the match between England and Sweden. The audience of Samara witnessed a locked match that developed away from the goalkeepers Olsen and Pickford.

After 20 minutes, the first shot of danger came. A play by Raheem Sterling ended at the feet of Harry Kane, the scorer of the World Cup, who shot from outside the area with a cross shot that went very close to the far post of the Swedish keeper.

With the passage of time, the game of England was imposed on Sweden. The Southgate team based their attack on the right wing, in which the Manchester City winger made the difference.

The British team became strong in the World Cup because of their stop ball plays. Against the Swedes they did not fail. At 30 minutes the goal that opened the score fell, after the first corner shot of the English team. Harry Maguire connected, perfectly, a center of Ashley Young in the middle of the area and placed the ball in the far corner of Olsen.

Two minutes from the end “The Three Lions” could stretch the advantage after a defensive failure. Sterling was hand in hand with the goalkeeper, who knew how to bail efficiently. Finally Andreas Granqvist ended up clearing the ball.

Sweden came out at the second half determined to tie. Two minutes into the match, Marcus Berg had the first clear for his team with a well-placed header that cleared the goalkeeper of Everton.

In their eagerness to attack, the ones led by Janne Andersson neglected some spaces in the field, which their opponents took advantage of to try to generate danger and stretch the advantage.

At 14 minutes into the match, the British managed to widen the gap. Delle Ali made it 2-0 with a new header after a cross from the right. The Tottenham player struck the ball centimeters from the penalty area and left the Swedish goalkeeper with no options.

The “Das team” advanced the lines ten minutes from the end and tried to play in the rival field. The English, for their part and with the favorable result, fell back to protect their goal difference and surprise with a counterattack.

With the victory, England added its third win so far in the contest. After their winning debut with Tunisia 2-1 and the win against Panama 6-1, the British fell to Belgium (1-0) and equaled with Colombia in the 120 minutes of play (1-1).

Sweden, meanwhile, said goodbye to the World Cup after leading a good group stage, which surpassed Mexico and South Korea, and fell against Germany in the last minute after playing a good match. In the quarterfinals they defeated Switzerland 1-0.
