Pakistan Minister of the Interior was shot dead

Ahsan Iqbal, one of the most important figures of the government, suffered an assassination attempt on a young man between 20 and 22 years old at the end of a political event

An unidentified man shot Sunday at a political rally in the Punjab province, Pakistan’s Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal, who was wounded in the shoulder, an official source told Efe.

” An attacker shot Ahsan Iqbal during a small public meeting near his hometown in the Kajruru area of the Narowal district, he was giving a speech to a Christian group ,” said the head of the police station in charge of the area, Shahbaz. Ahmed

The minister, who was attacked at the end of the political act, suffered a bullet wound in the right shoulder and was taken to a hospital in Narowal for urgent treatment, from where he will now be taken to a center in Lahore, the provincial capital, according to the source.

The assailant, between 20 and 22 years old, has been arrested by security forces, Ahmed added.

“He is out of danger and is aware,” Minister Ahmed Iqbal’s son told Pak channel Geo.

The country’s prime minister, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, has “strongly condemned” the attack on the minister and ordered an “immediate” report on what happened to the inspector general of the Punjab police, the office of the leader said in a statement.

Iqbal replaced his predecessor, Nisar Ali Khan when he fell to the top of the Nawaz Sharif government on July 28. Sharif then resigned as Pakistani prime minister after the Supreme Court decided to disbar him by his family companies in tax havens disclosed in the Panama Papers. The Pakistani Cabinet of Ministers was automatically dissolved.
